Are we already in the war too?

The leading topic – the Ukrainian conflict – is dominant in at least the European block for the last few weeks. Here in Prague, we are discussing one elementary question: “Are we going to be exposed to the similar situation in couple of years to what Ukraine is now?”

My opinion is that we can’t certainly underestimate it. At the same time, we have to be cautious whether we aren’t already partially in the war conflict. Just like the internet and the online space is quite often regarded as boundaryless, any conflict in this area wouldn’t know where to stop either.

All and every entity can face “unknown” cyber attack and be targeted only because your company has expressed their opinions or even be an active participant in certain topic. There is no hiding behind borders as everyone can be a target….

Even more reasons to be interested in how to protect ourselves and be secure in an online space. Have you become more curious and tried to understand what the abbreviation such as DDoS, VPN, two phased authentications, firewalls etc. that you hear so often all-around mean?

Long gone are the times when only international companies were exposed to such threats. This topic is becoming real for each and every one of us.

From the company’s point of view questions like “How much is our IT architecture protected? Who’s responsible to my online safety? starting to play key role.

The Czech proverb “what’s at home counts” isn’t valid so much anymore, thinking that the most secured system is the one we manage. Apart the fact we are online 24/7, it’s really important to realize who has access to a server and connect to it on the physical level. The physical connection loses several security layers.

If you get a chance, attend a virtual tour through a data centre with a description of all security measures and answer yourself whether those measures are established at your company. You would be sometimes surprised. Like when all the employees have to handed in complete biometric details and the ability to enter the server room equals almost entry to the highest security prison….

The security area is hence the topic that Granton will be focusing on in the years coming…

Let’s see in your comments below what do you think will be the biggest challenge in the upcoming years…
